Balance Rock, Bar Harbor

Balance Rock, perched precariously on the shore since the last ice age, is iconic imagery for the town of Bar Harbor, Maine. Glacial erratics are boulders carried by glacial activity to an area of different bedrock. The granite Balance Rock originated some 25 miles north of the sandstone ledge on which it rests.
