2020 was a difficult year with the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic and increasing political division. Isolated from friends and family, I found beauty where I had not previously focussed, in florals. The beach dunes near my home on the Emerald Coast of Florida are covered with Gulf Coast Lupine in the spring, a distinct species native only to a few counties here in Northwest Florida. The blooms give the dunes a blue cast such that one of the higher areas is called Blue Mountain Beach, named by sailors at sea for the first thing they saw when approaching land in the spring.
